We are the Concerned Heirs of Atrisco, an association of heirs of the Town of Atrisco Land Grant and shareholders of its corporate successor, Westland Development Co. Inc. As heirs and shareholders we constitute members of the community of descendants of the founders of the Atrisco Land Grant.
Spanish and Mexican land grant law and custom dating to the 17th century were recognized by the United States under the terms of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Thereby the Atrisco Land Grant was established for the common benefit of the community and its descendants to be maintained and held in perpetuity.
We are dedicated to the preservation of our connections to these ancestral lands and to their use in strengthening the vitality of our community and the preservation of our mutual heritage. We invite all our brothers and sisters, our fellow heirs and shareholders, wherever you may live, to join us in rejecting any plan that involves the forfeiture of our land and its heritage. Help us to build a future that acknowledges, celebrates, and preserves our mutual cultural relationship to our land and people.
